Description Eckhart Wörner 2010-02-19 20:04:11 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.4.0)
Installed from:    Debian testing/unstable Packages

This wish has been copied over from
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=532657 and has been verified
to still exist in KDE SC 4.4.0

KIO-Slaves which operate over the network are prone to be slow. This
baddens dolphin's usability if you can't see whether it's working or
waiting for your input. So you should be able to see it, possible
using a throbbler like in konqueror

This bug is sufficiently similar to one I had wanted to post that I'll just add my comments (this may also be related to bugs 252550, 237713):

folder-listing panel populates too slowly
=========================================
When I navigate dolphin to a large folder on a USB external hard drive, there are a few seconds when it seems that the target folder is empty. This is quite unnerving because there is no visual indication that dolphin is waiting on io or is processing.

The folder-listing panel is a totally empty white panel, as if the target folder was empty.

There should be some visual status indication (in the folder-listing panel) that something is pending. Maybe a progress-bar or progress-circle, but a simple text message would be fine.

I think this is fixed. Dolphin right now has a kind of progressbar in the lower right corner that indicates if it's doing something or not. If you turn that off then you indeed have no visual feedback.
