Version: 2.2.0 (using KDE 4.3.2) OS: Linux Installed from: SuSE RPMs There was an issue in amarok 2.1.1 with the greek mp3 tags. Many tags were not recognized correctly, there were appearing question marks instead of greek characters in the local collection. In amarok 2.2.0 this issue was resolved partially. From my 900 greek songs the same problem remains for around 20 songs. I checked these 20 tags with easytag,kid3 and pinkytagger but didnt find any problem.
The same happens to me with Amarok 2.2.1 in Archlinux (KDEMod 4.3.3). A few songs have question marks as tags. Even if I change those tags with Amarok the next time I load Amarok appear again as question marks. I've also checked them with different tag applications. I can't understand why this happens only with those few mp3s.
I presume you both use UTF-8 systemwide, no? In Amarok 2.2.1 do a full rescan of the collection with the option "Enable character set detection in id3 tags" enabled, then restart Amarok. Please report back.
Yes, I use UTF-8. Where is this option? In Configure Amarok -> Collection I see only "Scan folders recursively" and "Watch folders for changes"/
The problem remains with amarok 2.2.1, I tried a full rescan but no change... I could not found option "Enable character set detection in id3 tags". I remember that there was in early versions but not in my version...

On the contrary, it never was in a previous version, but it is in 2.2.1. Are you sure you have Amarok installed correctly? Settings -> Configure Amarok -> Collection -> last option at the bottom
For me there is no such option in 2.2.1. Here is how the package is build. http://repos.archlinux.org/wsvn/packages/amarok/repos/extra-x86_64/PKGBUILD
Changing status
That option does not exist in my version, I use amarok from the following repo: amarok-2.2.1-45.2-x86_64 http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/43/openSUSE_11.2/ maybe a x86_64 issue?
Sorry, my bad, this was fixed after 2.2.1 was tagged with commit adc5e3f6c2071b7892086c9d64d818fe3621e3a4. Closing for now, feel free to reopen if you can still reproduce this in Amarok 2.2-git or the next 2.2.2 version
Please note that if you're upgrading to 2.2.2 from an existing version (instead of a fresh install) you'll need to go to Settings->Collection and tell it not to use the charset detector.
