Description schepparn 2009-10-02 19:00:41 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.3.1)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Debian testing/unstable Packages

When I start dolphin an extra window is started a little ahead of the regular dolphin window and ends up behind. This background window is showing parts of the information that is normal for dolphin. I can close the shadow window without any problems.

This is the output I get when starting dolphin from konsole:

"/usr/bin/dolphin(2901)" Error in thread 3049965312 : "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown - The name org.kde.nepomuk.services.nepomukstorage was not provided by any .service files"
"/usr/bin/dolphin(2901)" Error in thread 3049965312 : "QLocalSocket::connectToServer: Invalid name"
X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
  Extension:    147 (RENDER)
  Minor opcode: 4 (RenderCreatePicture)
  Resource id:  0x0
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3

  Resource id:  0x0

Not to serious bug for me but it is a little anoying...

Thank you for your efforts!

I should probably also mention that I'm running
xrandr --output VGA --above LVDS

Please let me know if there is any more info you need...

- Did you used Konqueror some time and did you played with the view modes and splitting ?
I remember some cases when playing with split views and view modes on Konqueror affected the default behavior of the Dolphin view (not at this point, but causing some similar weirdness)
Thanks

I've definitely played with Konqueror but I don't remember playing with split views in Konqueror. All I can remember doing with Konqueror latetly is looking through Samba shares and stuff like that.

I've played with split views in Dolphin though but as I remember I did that without any problems before this phenomenon occurred.
Thank you!

Maybe it is caused by the search bar, see bug #210782
Comment 7 Peter Penz 2009-12-19 18:53:37 UTC
Is this issue still an issue for you with KDE 4.3.x? I cannot reproduce the issue and did not face similar reports yet... Thanks!

I've now updated my whole system from the start with the new Sidux release. The issue with the double windows reappeared after I started splitting the screen again. First I used both krandr and xrandr to manage the different screens and the problem first appeared again. Shutting down krandr and sticking with one screen doesn't change the dolphin behaviour. Now I'm only using xrandr with this line mainly:

xrandr --newmode "1280x1024"  109.00  1280 1368 1496 1712  1024 1027 1034 1063 -hsync +vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA1 1280x1024; xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x1024; xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1024x600; xrandr --output VGA1 --above LVDS1;;

But like I said, even without using this command the problem still persists after my first split.

I generally just close the extra window now when I open dolphin but I'd be great of course if I didn't have to.

Merry Christmas on All of You!

Hi, I have the same here on my machine. A ghost window from dolphin, which I can close normaly. And also the search bar from nepomuk is gone after that.

Very likely that this is fixed (never experienced it myself). Can anyone still reproduce this with Dolphin 17.12.3? Will close this bug soon if that's not the case.
Comment 11 Julian Steinmann 2018-03-25 18:11:59 UTC
No response -> closing. If you can still reproduce this behavior with the newest version of Dolphin, please reopen this bug.
