Version: 4:4.3.1-1 (using KDE 4.3.1) OS: Linux Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages It would be nice if KDM had a mechanism for selecting power profiles, ie going into power saving mode when operating on batteries. If I am sitting in class for an hour, I will want my laptop to boot up quickly and then enter maximum power saving mode at the earliest possible time before logging on.
ps: I could probably do this myself with an init script, but the sonypi module does not work on my laptop so I do not have access to power saving features until KDE is fully started.
loosely related to bug 33839

It shall be noted that GDM has had power management support for a while now, by simply running an instance of gnome-power-manager. I wonder if we could reuse PowerDevil in KDM as well.
Useful for conference room laptops and the like where people are not normally logged in.

I share a laptop with my wife. I guess there's also a lot of people who shares laptops. It would be nice to be able to log out and suspend while the next user comes and logs in to her/his account. Lets face it Linux boot is slow, specially on old hardware, so booting every time is annoying (and then waiting for KDE to load ...).
Me too. I specifically switched to kdm from lightdm since I wanted this functionality and thought that kdm, being a KDE component, would be aware of power management settings.
KDM is unmaintained and not used in KDE Plasma 5. SDDM is the login manager used in KDE Plasma 5. If you still have this same issue with SDDM, please file an issue on the SDDM bugtracker (after doing a search for existing issues first!): https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/
