Thanks for the bug report! Does this crash occur when you open the "Properties" dialog for a particular file, or when you try to check out the properties of some directory (like "/")? I wonder if this could be related to bug 185551 - maybe it leads to a segfault if asserts are disabled. Your Strigi version might also be interesting. To get it, run "strigidaemon --version" in a shell. Thanks.
Message from the reporter (please add further information as a comment here, do not send it by email): -- I checked bug 18551 and i don't think its related as kwin seems to work fine It doesn't crash if you are checking the properties dialog on a folder but only when you check a file inside a folder it immediately crashes and yes it leads to a signal11 segmentation fault Strigi version is 0.7.0-1 -- Thanks for the update! Note that I meant bug 185551, not bug 18551, but this bug should be fixed in Strigi 0.7.0. Does opening the properties dialog lead to a crash for any file type? If it only crashes for a particular file, it would help if you could attach that file here. It might also help if you could install some Strigi debugging information to get a better backtrace, see http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports I dont know the name of the package that needs to be installed on Fedora, it might be strigi-debuginfo or something like that.
This is a strigi issue. Either http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2830902&group_id=171000&atid=856302 or http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2830902&group_id=171000&atid=856302. I'll try to adjust the properties dialog in KDE 4.5 to not use Strigi anymore and use the same approach as Dolphin for the tooltips or Information Panel.
