Version: (using KDE 4.3.0) Compiler: gcc (4:4.3.3-1ubuntu1) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages I activated the panel auto-hide feature. If I switch to another desktop either by clicking on the pager or by turning the mouse wheel while over it, the panel hides immediately. That way I cannot switch two or more desktops to the left or right by just rolling the mouse wheel. Actually, the panel does not always behave that way. In about one out of five times I try, the panel stays up, but I wasn't able to find any regularity.
*** Bug 205286 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I just noticed the following: I switched to desktop number 2, for example. I moved the mouse to the bottom of the screen so that the panel appeared, and left the mouse there. Then I used the keyboard shortcuts to switch desktops back and forth a bit, without touching the mouse. The panel was visible exactly on desktop 2, but not on any other desktop. It seems that the panel is treated like any other non-sticky window. As I said before, this is not always reproducible. It seems to be random whether the panel is visible everywhere or just on one desktop.
If I switch desktops and the panel disappears, the glow bar is deactivated and moving the mouse to the bottom of the screen doesn't unhide the panel. Moving the mouse outside the region where the panel should be and back down again reactivates the glow bar and makes unhiding possible again.
I can confirm comment #3 (KDE 4.3.3, Gentoo Sources). It only happens several times a day but not always. Fortunately I was able to create a video about it. :-) http://v6.tinypic.com/player.swf?file=k0668m&s=6 (Flash plugin needed.)
This is probably the same bug: Activate auto-hide, click the clock to open the calendar and switch the desktop by scolling over the pager or using a keyboard shortcut. The panel vanishes and it is impossible to bring it back on the screen without switching back to the other desktop. Again, this doesn't happen every time. If it doesn't (or if auto-hide is not activated), only the calendar vanishes, because it stays on the other desktop. Then you have to click twice to bring it back, which probably also is not intended.
can't reproduce in trunk, does this still happens?
see last comment
It still happens with KDE 4.3.4. (Don't know about the trunk version though.)
With KDE 4.4 Beta 2 (or 4.3.85) it happens a lot less often, but it still happens occasionally. To reproduce this bug, don't just cycle over the pager indefinitely: If the bug occurs, it does so at the first desktop switch after unhiding the panel. So between two desktop switches, you have to move the mouse away from the panel and back to the edge again. I did that 20 times and the bug occurred 4 times.
Still happening on 4.4 rc2: My panel at bottom is set to autohide. I have a 4 desktop pager on the panel arrange in the square pattern. If I am on, for example, desktop 1 and click on desktop 2 of the pager, often the panel retracts (hides) and remains hidden on desktop 2 until I move the mouse up, out of the panel area, and then back down to the bottom of the screen. Since the panel was not hidden when I clicked on the pager (leaving the mouse pointer at the same place), it should remain not hidden when the new desktop is displayed; sometimes it does, but often it doesn't. This seems to always happen when KDE first started. But after a few desktop switches it gets better and you may not notice it once every desktop is populated with windows.
Created attachment 40895 [details] Little video i made to illustrate the problem Hope this helps someone.
The problem still exists in versions 4.4.5 and 4.5.0. If I turn on the "slide" desktop switching effect, I can observe how the panel usually goes from one virtual desktop to the other instantly. Except if the bug occurs: In that case the panel stays on its original desktop and slides out of the screen together with the other windows. If I leave the mouse in the area where the panel should be and switch back to the original desktop using a keyboard shortcut, it slides into view again.
It still happens occasionally in KDE 4.6.2. Please tell me what information you need and I will try to provide it.
Last version reported with is 4.6.2, is this still valid with 4.8.3 or later?
Yes. It still happens with 4.8.3.
Thank you for the feedback.
This problem still exists in KDE 4.10.1.
Still happening in KDE 4.14.3.
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
