Description Jaroslav Tulach 2009-08-13 16:20:13 UTC
Version: 2.1.1 (using 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4), Mandriva Linux release 2009.1 (Official) for i586)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.29.6-desktop-1mnb

Old amarok used to have an action to randomize order of tracks in their list. Such action seems to be missing in amarok2, or at least it is not next to the "Clear list of tracks" as it used to be.

Can the action be returned back? I found it hard to use the new amarok2 without it.

Isn't that a wish rather than a bug?
Comment 2 Jaroslav Tulach 2009-08-13 19:21:16 UTC
From my desperate point it is a bug. Something that used to work, no longer does. Making the product unusable (I would have never upgraded to amarok2 if I knew this action is missing).

But feel free to make it an enhancement or feature request.

Thanks for the report, we shall look into it!
Comment 4 Kolja 2009-09-02 23:07:24 UTC
I think we should retag to 2.3 because of feature freeze.

Teo: Isn't this done already with your playlist work?
Comment 6 Teo Mrnjavac 2009-09-09 17:00:26 UTC
This has been available in 2.2-git master since the beginning of August 2009, implemented as a "Random" sort level in the playlist sorting interface.
Comment 7 Jaroslav Tulach 2009-11-17 14:44:52 UTC
I can confirm that the "random" sort level fixes my problem. I can however also witness that without your advice I would have never found it - e.g. its usability is quite harder than the original "Randomize" action in the menu of amarok 1.4.

Anyway, thanks.

We'll see what we can do to improve discoverability.

If there is anyone missing the "shuffle" action, here is an Amarok plugin that adds it to Tools menu:

Well, the shuffle mode is available since quite some time, no need for an additional script. Check the playlist sorting at the top left of the playlist pane.

Hello Myriam, as the http://wiki.apidesign.org/wiki/Amarok explains "shuffle mode" and "shuffe" actions are not the same. There are usecases where the current solution is not enough. According to comments on my website, I am glad I am the only one missing the "shuffle action": http://wiki.apidesign.org/wiki/Talk:Amarok

What is the official way to propose new script for official Amarok registry of scripts?

Just to make sure we understand each other:

- you already have made a script, but host it on your own site, not on http://kde-apps.org like the other 3rd-party scripts, right? The I strongly suggest you add your script there, else the users will never find it. And please do not just add a link to your website but give a link to the script itself.

-there already are several play-modes available, both random from the Track Progression button at the bottom of the playlist as well as to shuffle the playlist. And you can generate random playlists with the Dynamic Playlist mode. I still fail to see what more you need :)

I was searching kde-app.org yesterday (to publish my script there) and found out that there already is shuffle script contributed by jazty: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Shuffle+Playlist?content=147340 - no need to duplicate that by submitting my own, I guess.
