Version: (using KDE 4.1.3) OS: Linux Installed from: I Don't Know Hi, I am using Suse10.2 Problem:: I login to Suse 10.2 through KDE as 'root' user and password as 'root123'. use the system some time , after that reboot the system. While I try to login to system through kde give user 'root' password 'root123'. it does not allow to login , says login failed. If I try to login through TTY through same credential ,as user:'root' passwd:'root123' it allows. Expected Behavior: It should allow login through KDE with user 'root' and password 'root123'.
root login is disabled by default. If you want to login as root, please check your system's kdmrc and check if it has AllowRootLogin=true
re comment #2: it seems more complicated than that: - if i understand correctly, the root login through kdm does work sometimes? - if it was kdm's option to disable root logins, kdm woud clearly say so. "login failed" might indicate that pam blocks root logins, though. please examine the authpriv.* syslog facility.
How can I check my system's kdmrc ?
It is located at /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KDM#Configuration
KDM is unmaintained and not used in KDE Plasma 5. SDDM is the login manager used in KDE Plasma 5. If you still have this same issue with SDDM, please file an issue on the SDDM bugtracker (after doing a search for existing issues first!): https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/
