Description Michał Kudła 2008-09-14 21:30:38 UTC
Version: nieznana (using KDE 4.1.1)
Compiler: Target: i686-pc-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.26-gentoo
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

I have installed kde 4.1.1, aftrer that, I updated xorg-server to 1.5 (from 1.3).
Then, my KDE 4.1.1 don't start.
After login screen (KDM 4.1.1) I can see appearing icons under loading screen, and graphics restart and again I am in login screen (KDM).
I updated xorg-x11 up to 7.4 (from 7.2) but without success on loading KDE 4.1.1.
I changed many times nvidia-drivers between stable and unstable drivers... without success.

I don't know where to find logs and source of problem.

With xorg 1.5/7.4 KDE 3.5.9, XFCE works fine

If your X crashed and the login screen is again visible, then Xorg.0.log is already for this new session, the correct X log is Xorg.0.log.old. Also your ~/.xsession-errors after the session might be useful.
However, given that you are returned to the login screen, it is very likely this is X crash and not a KDE problem.

OK, I have this two files.
In ~/.xsession-errors I have
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: PKCS7_content_free
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OpenSSL_add_all_algorithms
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OPENSSL_add_all_algorithms
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: undefined symbol: OpenSSL_add_all_algorithms_conf
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
  Major opcode: 19
  Minor opcode: 0
  Resource id: 0x3a00059
Launched ok, pid = 7578

And in file /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old

Backtrace:
0: /usr/bin/X [0x80f9bc0]
1: /usr/bin/X(FontFileCompleteXLFD+0xa1) [0x806b8a1]

Fatal server error:

As expected, X crashes, not a KDE bug.
Comment 10 Michał Kudła 2008-09-18 21:41:40 UTC
new xorg.conf helps. New config I get from Xorg -configure
