Description Seb 2008-03-13 18:20:27 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.0.2)
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs

What I basically do is to eopen bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=151205, but I do not have any idea how to eopen it, so I open a new report:

I agree with the previous poster that the bar takes too much space in x direction. It also does not look very good to me (though that may be my personal asthetic feeling). There is too much noise on the bar (too many frames visible).

I agree with the previous poster that using QToolBox was visually much more appealing. For the arguments against it:
o I agree with the keyboard issue tough couldn't that be added to Qt? Moreover: This is a design issue of Okular - The left bar is supposed to be a "toolbar" - which is meant by definition to simplify user commands by mouse while all functions must remain available using the menubar. Ergo: Not the keyboard control of QToolBox is mssing, but the respective commands in the menu (I checked it right now and can not find it here using Okular on KDE 4.0.2).

o I agree that certain styles may remove more space, but this is (a) a minority and (b) the horizontal space is (at least for me) much more important that the vertical space. I use a fairly large zoom when reading scientific online-articles all the time requiring space in x-direction!

I also do not know why the Kate-style bar with vertical tabs is not considered as an option. This is still better than the current solution though I prefer QToolBox.

- remove/hide: Settings -> Show/hide navigation panel (nothing new)
- compress: right click on the sidebar, and choose whether you want text, and the size of icons

Tried removing them, but the focus drawing was lost. Have to look more on that.

> I agree with the previous poster that using QToolBox was visually much more appealing.

... but has many usability issues (see my blog entry about that).

This is the same "issue" as bug #151205.

In your comment there are too many "IMHO", "I prefer", "for me". Sorry, but they are harly reasons.
