Description Ian Petts 2008-01-03 01:01:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux

I am encountering an intermittent problem with the "Windows" modifier key under KDE.

I frequently use Amarok and the associated Win-key combinations (Play/Pause = Win-C, Volume = Win-KP_+/- etc) and tend to notice first that these have stopped working, although then when I try other KDE global Win-key combinations these have also stopped working.

In what appears to be a similar problem to bug 78045 (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78045), I can go into the Control Centre -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Global Shortcuts and attempt to assign Win-anything to a selected action. Upon pressing (and holding down) the Win key "Win+" appears in the Primary Shortcut box, but when pressing the combo-key with the Win key still held down the Win+ disappears and I get only the bare character key; so holding down Win and pressing 'C' leaves me with a bare 'C' as the shortcut.

Logging out and back into KDE _sometimes_ resolves the issue, and on at least one occasion the problem has resolved itself while "playing around" in the KDE keyboard shortcuts, although I am unsure of exactly what settings were changed to fix the problem. (Resetting everything back to defaults after playing around does not appear to either fix or cause the problem).

The problem also seems to occur at random, with the key combinations working one minute and seemingly not working the next. I can confirm though that there are no changes to the key mapping settings between a working and non-working configuration. It happens of it's own accord, although Amarok has been running each time, so it may somehow be related.

I am using a Dell Optiplex GX280 with USB keyboard, in case that makes a difference.

Can you still reproduce this bug on KDE 3.5.10 or KDE 4.2 beta2?
On KDE 4.2 beta2 it is working correctly.

Marking as NEEDSINFO

Unfortunately I no longer have access to the hardware I was using when I reported this problem and have also switched to Gnome on my current hardware.

I am sorry but I am unable to provide more information. Perhaps this can be closed?
