Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.6) Installed from: Fedora RPMs Compiler: gcc 4.x OS: Linux I am using kde 3.5.6 packaged by the kde-redhat project. Using KDE, when I right click on the desktop near the bottom center of the screen when the menu is dismissed it leaves a black hole in the background (wallpaper or color). I would believe that this was a driver or X11 problem but GNOME and XFCE 4.4 do not exhibit this behavior. I have tried running kdesktop without any other X11 programs except xterm but the results were the same. I have both qt4 and qt3 on the system. This might be an issue as a recent update (March 6, 2007) to qt4 seems to have dramatically reduced the occurrence of the problem (I have only observed the issue once since the update). There are many possible locations for the problem. It could be a qt4 install issue. How can I debug further?
Sounds like a graphics driver problem. Can you try a different driver (eg, if you have an nvidia card, nv<->nvidia, or with an ATI card, fglrx<->radeon)?
I tried with nv instead of nvidia and had the same issue.
I also tried removing QT4 incase of an interaction issue with not success. One interesting data pint is that I tried on a different resolution. The problem occurred at both 1280x1024 and 1600x1200, however the location on the screen where the problem occurs changes. This would seem to indicate some type of clipping region issue (I am no QT/KDE expert however).
Thanks for checking. I don't know much about the details though, so I'll have to leave it to someone else to comment.
I don't know if this is meaningful or related, but another GUI problem I am running into is that when my screensaver actuates (either lock screen or timer) the screen locks but the screen saver never takes over. and the desktop is still visible.
Further investigation leads me to believe this is a distro specific issue. I was unable to reproduce the problem when using the kubuntu live-cd.
I believe the issue is downstream of kde
Bug closed. Kdesktop is no more mantained.
