Description Wiebe Cazemier 2006-05-29 14:32:36 UTC
Version: 0.11.1 (using KDE 3.5.2, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.5 (Gentoo 3.4.5-r1, ssp-3.4.5-1.0, pie-8.7.9)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.16-gentoo-r7

Normally, when a contact says something, the taskbar entry of the chatwindow flashes when the window is not active. This kopete version (0.11.1) does not, no matter the status of the window. I've enabled all the proper options, including an explicit notification in the "configure notification" menu, yet no success.

Other applications (Such as the Psi jabber client) can cause the taskbar to flash just fine, so it's not a general KDE issue.

Loaded plugins:
- Cryptography
- History
- KopeTex
- Statistics

Works fine here.

I believe the cause could be that you have compiled kdelibs without arts support.
Even though you don't use arts (you can disable it in the kde config afterwards) you still have to compile kdelibs with arts support because knotify is included in it.

Try it ;)

I indeed leave out arts. But, if it includes knotify, does that mean that it's impossible alltogether for apps to flash the taskbar? I ask, because other apps flash it nicely, including the jabber client Psi.

And, has knotify been moved to arts since KDE 3.5? I had my 3.4.2 release compiled wihout arts as well, and kopete was able to flash the taskbar in it.

BTW, knotify in arts? I don't see the logic in that...

Well, there is an easy way to test it.
Tell KDE to use an external player to play sounds (aplay or play) for example.
Then try to play a sound through it via KDE. If it works you have another problem but if it doesn't compile kdelibs with arts (only kdelibs is enough).

Afaik it has always been like this.
I don't know about PSI but I think it doesn't depend on knotify or kdelibs.

this is for history reasons.

but in kde4 there os phonon, so "bug" is resoleved :-)
