Description Brian Harris 2005-05-07 22:33:14 UTC
Version: 0.11.23 and 0.11.18 (using KDE KDE 3.3.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: 3.3.5-20050130
OS: Linux

K3b incorrectly states that my media and/or burner do not support selected speed(24x discs), and downgrades speed to 4x. This is a Pioneer dvr-109, 40X cdr write speed. Sony 24X cd-r media. DMA is active on all drives, firmware is up to date, and running as root does not fix issue. Here's debugging output, I canceled burn as soon as it said "Switching to 4X":

In the copy CD dialog, it says that writer/media does not support 24X, switching to 4X. Before my previous burner(TDK) died, I was able to burn at full speed 16X. Seems as though k3b is either reading spped of drive or media incorrectly. This is a gentoo system, 1.5GHZ, 384 MB Ram.

This is driving me batty. I was all excited about my new dvdr, and now I cannot even burn an audio CD in less than 30 minutes. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

this has nothing to do with k3b. cdrecord decreases the speed. use the little button near the speed selection combo to get the supported speds with that media. Be aware that not only the writer needs to be able to write at 24x but also the media.
