it would be nice if todo and calendar had an incremental search bar similar to kmail's. This would hide items (todo or calendar depending on context) that do not match the search.

Second that. Also, it would be great if it could also search in items' descriptions (optionally, as it would have to be a bit slower; to be chosen using a checkbox or sth) and maybe categories (although I don't use them, so I'm not sure whether text search over them would be really useful, but I imagine there are times when it would).

A incremental search bar would be really useful especially if you have a lot of todos and want to change a specific one. Eg. alphabetic order doesn't help if you only remember a persons last name and the name of a todo-time is "call Max Smith"). Furthermore it's more convinient than go to "Find Events". 
Maybe instead of "Click to add a new to-do"?, which doesn't save time at all. Click on "new to-do" or CTRL+N, enter name and press enter does the same. I often want to set an additional date, category or note and therefore I must find this to-do again afterwards.

I've already implemented quick search for todos (it's in the trunk). I'm not sure how useful the quick search bar would be for calendar, though (given that you only see so many appointments in the calendar view anyway). OTOH, maybe it would be useful for appointments list view? I don't use it, so I can't really tell.

it would be perfect for the list view, and it COULD work for any view, if when you started incremental search, it HID all appointments that do not match what you are searching for. so if you have a crowded schedule, you could search for "Julie" and it would hide all appointments that did not contain Julie, allowing me to easily see the events I am looking for.
