IMHO it is no wise idea to sort filter rules by name because it breaks the filter chain. I propose setting this wish to invalid and instead implement a quick search box (Bug 120240). Some of the filter rules (at least mine) may be reordered without any harm. E.g. all rules for friends of mine are in one sequence, other sequences are for companies, mailing lists and so on. Since the amount of filter rules is increasing over time it gets more complicated to have them all well-organized. A quick search would help a bit but it wouldn't make the task of maintaining them much easier. It might be wise to sort a subset of the rules, which could be made possible if multiple selection in the filter list were implemented, as per another wish (which I'm sure I've seen but can't seem to find now) regarding moving multiple rules up or down at the same time. The bug for a quick search bar in the filter dialog is at bug 120240. IMHO this is the best solution. |
