This (Gmail) is the best way to read LKML. Please implement it in Kmail! *** This bug has been confirmed by popular vote. *** Consider adressed with the new kmail UI from kde 4.2 This issue is _not_ addressed with the new KDE 4.2 UI. I think that the OP was not clear in explaining the Gmail experience for those not familiar with it. In Gmail, one sees a flat list of all messages, both received and sent. This is not a flat list in the list pane, rather in the message pane. For a detailed description of Gmail's threading with user's replies, see the heading "Viewing a conversation thread" on this page: http://xkahn.zoned.net/software/evolution/threads/ This is also relevant: http://taint.org/wk/GmailThreadingDetails *** Bug 206189 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** This bug proposes that Kmail add an option for showing the user's own replies in threads in a single view window. The Gmail web-based email client does this, and it is very convenient for conversing with someone who does not know how to properly quote. For a detailed description of Gmail's threading with user's replies, see the heading "Viewing a conversation thread" on this page: http://xkahn.zoned.net/software/evolution/threads/ Thanks. I used to use Kmail. I switched to gmail, because their way of showing threads just saved me so much time that it was hard to justify ignoring it. I desperately want to switch back to a self hosted mail server with a FOSS (better yet KDE) client, but much to my amazement *no* foss webmail or client exists that does this (I have spent many, many hours looking). Thunderbird has an extension that kind of goes half way, but it's pretty poor. Honestly, this is the main feature that has many otherwise FOSS users giving our data to the big G. Help us Obi Wan Codeobi's... you're our only hope! This feature request is still valid for KMail 2 Reassigning to product kmail2 Thunderbird's conversation view is now much better (near perfect, actually). To see exactly what it is that is being asked for, take a look at: http://mozillalabs.com/messaging/2010/12/07/announcing-thunderbird-conversations/ I've been using thunderbird since this came out. I'd really rather use Kontact for it's integration into KDE with something like this though. Thunderbird shows those conversations in a new tab. Kmail could show them as a new special folder in the folder list underneath the folder for search results I also started a Brainstorm discussion to implement this here: http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=106929&p=247068 (In reply to comment #12) > I also started a Brainstorm discussion to implement this here: > http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=106929&p=247068 I guess you mistakenly posted another link? no, the idea here in this "bug report" is to add conversations as threads inside the messages view, but that could be a bit hard to implement, so the idea in that brainstorm is, that for an easy implementation for the kmail developers, you could simply add a link to the replys of a message. I want to bump this bug since I think it would be extremely useful feature to have. |
