Version:           0.7 (using KDE 3.3.1,  (3.1))
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-3)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.7

Digikam doesn't recognize Sanyo Xacti J2 camera either automatically nor is it listed among supported cameras. The same is for the J1 and J4 cameras.

Hi,

Digikam is using gphoto2 to support cameras. For a list of the gphoto2 supported cameras please look at http://www.gphoto.org/proj/libgphoto2/support.php

As you can see, your camera is not supported by gphoto2. You could try one of the supported drivers or try to contact gphoto and ask them for support.

Thank you!

I have tried some of the drivers but will try more.
Sanyo is the biggest manufacturer of digital cameras
in the world (OEM) so it may be possible. I've mailed
Gphoto and requested support. A card reader is also a
possibility of course.

essentially digiKam doesn't provide drivers for any cameras. it makes use of libgphoto2 for digital camera support. you will have to contact the gphoto2 developers (www.gphoto.org) for further support
