Version:           1.7.2 (using KDE 3.3.2, compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.4.2 [FreeBSD] 20040728
OS:                FreeBSD (i386) release 5.3-STABLE

If I click on message in a still opened IMAP folder on a server, that got disconnected, KMail will notify me politely and reconnect -- great improvement.

However, the message, that I clicked on, will not be displayed. To see it, after the reconnection, I'll need to click on another message and then back on the one I wanted.

I can confirm this for trunk r860752. I tested it like this:
(1) select a mail in an online IMAP folder
(2) kill your kio_imap4
(3) KMail notifies you about kio_imap4 dieing
(4) select a different mail in the folder -> no mail is retrieved
(5) click on yet a different mail -> the mail is shown, things are back to normal

Cannot reproduce anymore in KDE 4.3
