If the fontsize of the message window will be changed to bigger with ctrl+<mouse wheel up> it need a long time (8 sec at 1,6 GHz P4). That should be faster (maybe 1 sec is ok). For example try font resizing with kate... this is really fast.

If the font size is mading smaller or the new font size was previously selected it will be quickly.

works very fast with KDE 4.3
