Description eduard 2004-12-02 09:36:30 UTC
Version: 1.4 (using KDE 3.3.0, Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.1 (Mandrakelinux (Alpha 3.4.1-3mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-10mdk

I'm using Xdmx to run kde. Xdmx let you use more than one Xserver in multiple computers to run an unified virtual Xserver over them, so I can use my laptop screen as a second screen to my computer.

Everything works quite well (even xine) except that Konsole don't show any font. Not the menu, options neither the text on the screen.

And you have no problems with icons/menus/text of every other KDE application!?

Yes, few graphics are missed, and trying to take a picture of konsole's problem I finished loosing the keyboard so I had to restart the Xclient.

Noticed same issue both with konsole and konqueror on kde 3.2.3 and Xdmx over two (rarely three) displays, with all machines involved being diskless clients with the exact same setup. (Debian still have 3.3 in their unstable tree as of this writing.) KIO file transfer dialogs are affected, too. Sometimes icons and text in KDE menus is missing. File selection dialogs are affected. Interestingly, KMail seems to work.

No problem though on KDE 3.3.2, Xdmx over two displays of independent machines with slightly different setup; also for testing purposes Xdmx over two Xnests on a notebook didn't fail to show any text or icons.

KDE seems to be the only software affected by this. Other X clients appear to run well enough.

This image shows an instance of konqueror affected by the bug. The web page
text is missing. The underlined nothingness is a link under the mouse cursor.

If it appears in both Konsole and Konqueror it probably isn't a Konsole-specific bug.

Perhaps it is a Qt issue?
I'm closing this one for now, please reopen if it appears in Konsole for KDE 4.
