Sentry Crash Report:

Description Benno Dielmann 2004-12-02 02:04:47 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

I don't know if it really is kwin's fault, but in KDE 3.3.1 many dialogs aren't resizable any more. Prominent example: the command dialog you get with ALT-F2. While it isn't a problem with this dialog, my second example shows why this "feature" is really annoying. If you click on, say, a rpm file link on a web page you get a dialog with options "Save as...", "Open with..." and "Cancel" which isn't resizable. Now, if the name of the link to be saved, which is displayed on the dialog, is a longer one, it gets shortened by leaving out some character and inserting "..." instead.

In some (not so uncommon) cases, you aren't able to recognize it any more. Example:
http://puzzle.dl.s...5.2.8-FC2.i386.rpm

Now, in former KDE versions, to be able to read the full name, you could resize (even maximize) the dialog.

Note that this is only an illustrative example. There are cases when a dialog opens where you don't know where it came from and you have no idea what the shortened §$&§$§ is.

It thought the former resizability of dialogs to be a big plus for example compared to Windows for the above reason. So please, please, I want it back!

I think it's KMessageBox that makes things non-resizable, although I don't remember them ever being resizable.

KRunner is resizeable. The KMessageBox problem is either fixed, or reported elsewhere.
