Euler number as is (no digit grouping)

Description Frieder Ferlemann 2004-11-20 20:56:28 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

digit grouping is handy also for those who haven't set the thousands separator. A slightly darker background colour for more significant digits would look uninvasive.

Setting a thousands separator is not an option for people who cut and paste between (non-kde) applications with different or unknown locale settings.

While this wish is triggered by the kcalc application it might be more generally applicable for number input/output in kde. Kind of "Syntax highlighting" for numbers:)

(This wish is related to but different from bug 56669)

I don't think it is a good idea to introduce a second background color, since this may messes up with different color schemes.

Also I think you confuse the formatting of the number display with that what is actually copied, which should be always the number value. Example:
1000
1,0E+03
1.000
these have all the same value (1000), which should be copied.

So different locale settings doesn't pose a problem.

Thanks for revisiting this.

Attached two files which should illustrate my proposal. I'm biased and prefer the grouped display:)
