Description Nicolas Girard 2004-11-14 14:26:38 UTC
Version:           0.9.1 (using KDE 3.3.1 (CVS >= 20041110), Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.4.1 (Mandrakelinux 10.1 3.4.1-4mdk)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-10mdk

Well, as title says, it would be nice to be able to hide the vertical scroll bar. I could live with it for sure, but scroll bars looks quite ugly to me.

With konsole I use the "Shift-PgUp" and "Shift-PgDown" shortcuts instead of the scrollbar and I'm pretty happy like this ; why not implementing this in Kopete ?

It's bad for an usability point of view.
No other KDE program allows that (even Konsole) so it's inconsistant.

Well, this is *your* judgment on usability. Please don't be so affirmative about usability issues. I currently work on a laptop with a tiny screen and I feel the need to hide Kopete's scrollbar when I leave its window near another one. This seems quite sensible to me.

Please check out Konsole's menus, esp. "Configuration -> Scrollbar". I've been using this option for ages.

Please reconsider this issue. Perhaps this feature doesn't suit *you* ; but the nice thing with the KDE community is that its developers try to provide options for users instead of imposing their views on how to use their apps.

You shouldn't re-open closed wishlist items. It's not good manners, and doesn't make much sense, since they will not be implimented ever.

As an aside - Konsole is a special-purpose app that has some things no other KDE app has or ever would have, many of which break usability guidelines, because it is a terminal application. For example, many standard keyboard shortcuts do not work in it, for obvious reasons.

I highly doubt many people would ever want to use such a feature in Kopete, it would just be feature-bloat.

However - starting with KDE 3.4, you are free to code your own chat window plugin that has this capability :P

i'm at least considering implementing it.

Reopen if you consider it some more

but the contact list in kopete has option to disable scrollbar and use mouse motion to scroll . and it's great, why not make such option for chat window :>
