Description Charles Reis 2004-11-11 21:20:45 UTC
Version: 1.7 (using KDE 3.3.0, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 20040412 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.3-7)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7-1smp.2

The KMail system tray icon currently shows a count of the unread messages. However, KMail makes a distinction between unread messages and new messages, and it would be very nice to configure the tray icon to show a count of the new messages instead. (Similarly, an option to "Only show KMail in system tray if there are new messages" would be nice in the KMail configuration dialog.) This would allow the tray icon to behave more like Mozilla/Thunderbird, which only displays an envelope if there are new messages (not just unread).

Personally, I find this distinction important, since I often have 50+ unread messages, and I don't want to remember the previous count in my head to determine if I have any new ones.

Thanks!
Charlie Reis

Wish for KMail1 under KDE3.

This is a reasonable wish, but unfortunately in KMail2 there is no distinction between "new" and "unread" messages. So it is not possible to implement this.
