if I shortly open and close the node of a todo having sub-todos (e.g. looking for due sub-todos), the dialog for changing the todo opens.

That's because you actually doubleclick on that item.

Well, yes and no. In a doubleclick the first click doesn't have any effect... 
So you should never be able to double-click on the + (it should always be 
understood as two separate clicks).

This behaviour was apparently fixed in Qt, because it's not reproducible in the current svn's version. Please reopen if this still happens for you.
