Version:           1.1.1 (using KDE 3.3.0, Arch Linux)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.4.2
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-mm4

the gst-engine uses always 100% cpu while running

reproduce:
use gst-engine (alsasink)

workaround:
use arts-engine or xine-engine

Does it do anything else than using CPU? Does it play audio? Do you get any special output on the console, error messages and the like? What sink do you use?

Ah yes, this was enlightenting. I think the problem is that you are using the ffmpeg plugin for mp3 decoding. I do not know why it does not work with amaroK, but I have heard similar reports from other users before. I will investigate this further.

Install the "mad" plugin instead, which also decodes mp3, but works fine with amaroK.

I've just checked back with the GStreamer devels, and it turned out that ffmpeg is broken for mp3. So please report the bug to the GStreamer bug database.

We might add some warning to our FAQ in this regard.
