I would like to have the option to view my album and edit pictures in a three pane setup that includes the albums on my left. The thumbnails on a pane on the bottom of the screen and my selected image on the upper right hand side in the main application window. This differs from current interface that launches a new window for each selected picture.

sorry. the design of digikam is not to emulate the appearance of other software. the current implementation provides a lot cleaner display and allows for room for expansion (some of which are planned for the 0.8 release)
