Description Maurizio Colucci 2004-09-12 20:01:10 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Multiple instances of kdiskfree should not be allowed.

In general, KUniqueApplication should be used for apps for which having two open instances does not make sense.

Reason:

Suppose I need to use kdf.

Suppose I keep a lot of open apps, so it is expensive to search the taskbar (or the window list) for kdiskfree.

Also suppose I remember having used kdf one minute ago, but I don't remember if I have closed it.

So I am sure I will find kdf in the k-menu (recently used apps) but I am not sure whether I will find it in the taskbar.

I would like to directly click kdf from the k-menu -> recently used apps, but I can't because if kdf is already open, I get two open instances. So I am forced to scan two lists each time: the windows list in the taskbar, and then, if I don't find kdf there, the recent apps list in the k-menu.

This should be a general policy matter applying not only to KDF but to all applications which do not provide additional utility through multiple instances. (KWrite is an example of an app which *does* provide such additional utility -- as a counter-example.) Please reword this bug.

I am also giving it some votes.
