Since kmail 1.7 in kde 3.3 the developers have added a quick search bar, so you can find emails very fast, it's even faster to find recent mails like that than by scrolling! I think it's an extremely useful tool.

One of the things I do a lot in the konqueror file browser is searching for a file in the current or subfolders, based on the filename only. You can do this by opening the search dialog and pressing enter or clicking the find button. 

A huge timesaver can be added to konqueror if there was an option to put a quicksearch on top of the file browser (so exactly like in kmail, next to the treeview). Why?

*Because it requires less mouse clicks than the current search action :) 

*Because if you want to see a file in a huge folder, like home (if you let him show invisible files, home is really huge :), you have to scroll a lot which takes time. Just typing a few letters of the file in the quicksearch will automatically limit the current folder to show files that have that lettercombination in their name (you don't need to press enter or click find for this action, it happens as you type as in kmail - however for efficiency this probably shouldn't search inside the subfolders)

*If you only want to see the jpg files in this folder, you just type jpg or and you're done. (yes you can sort the folder by file type, but if you have a lot of extensions in it it's still a mess...)

*If you have eg a folder with large images, medium sized thumbnails (me_filename) and small  thumbnails (sm_filename) and you only want to do something with the medium sized ones: just type me_ in the quicksearch and you're finished!

I can think of a huge ammount of examples where this quicksearch could be useful.

Maybe put a button 'search in subfolders' next to the quicksearch bar, so he'll do that when you press that button - will be a timesaver as well.

Ofcourse this quicksearch bar should only be an option, people who don't like it (if there are ;) should be able to turn it of.

I hope this feature can be integrated, I believe it would really be a good thing!
