Note that Kmail connects to the MTA over a phone line in this case. The MTA is qmail. Here is a reply from the qmail mailing list about this problem. ============================================================= Chittaranjan Mandal <Chittaranjan.Mandal@iitkgp.ac.in> wrote: > Does qmail connection die if the link is too slow? Yes, but "too slow" is very slow indeed -- abominably slow. > I have no problem over fast ethernet, but I am getting problems > with a ppp connection over a modem to a PSTN network. > > Details of the problem is available in the following bug report: > http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88058 This isn't evidence of a slow connection -- it's evidence of an SMTP receiver which doesn't respond to the end of the data phase of the SMTP conversation (i.e., the sender sends CRLF.CRLF and doesn't get a response). The above report doesn't indicate whether qmail is the receiving SMTP agent, or the sending one. If the latter, show us your qmail-send logs.
