Description Jakub Suder 2004-08-25 15:57:06 UTC
Version: 1.0 (using KDE 3.2.3, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-7)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7

I'm using Mepis Linux, and I've got one "real" user which I use to log in at KDM. Now I'd like to create another for my sister who sometimes uses my computer. But my user is a member of many groups: audio, cdrecording, cdrom, usb, etc. I want my sister to have the same permissions as I have, so she can run various desktop apps (I don't know if that group membership is ever checked, but perhaps it is...). So I have to create a new user, open mine in the background, and manually check which groups I belong to and select them for the new user.
So, I think it would be useful if there was an option "clone user" or something like that. I would then "clone" my user, and I would get a new user with all parameters equal to mine (well, maybe the uid, name and home dir could be different), and I could change those which I want (e.g. full name) and leave those which I don't want to change (group membership).

I think this is an useful feature, too, and there's a high probabilty that I will implement it :)

Sometimes my friends come to my place and I need to setup an computer account for them(so they cannot see my hidden *** files and passwords). I would like a clone function

kuser no longer exists as a separate thing and hasn't for several years; it's relevant functionality now exists as the Users page in System Settings. If you experience an issue with that page, or want to request a new feature for it, feel free to open a new bugzilla ticket about the matter at https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=systemsettings&component=kcm_users.

Thanks folks!
