Description Brian Hunt 2004-08-04 05:40:58 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.3)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

Backup and keep track of prior versions of the configuration, and permit reversion. This is divided into several components:

1. keep backups of previous versions of the configurations. If, like me, your system locked up while the configuration files were open and they were garbled beyond recovery, you have to start from scratch.

2. keep differences between previous versions, with the ability to revert.

3. provide a nice interface for going through previous configuration options.

This may be done better with a low-level system-wide configuration backup and management system, or perhaps with a redesign of kcontrol in general.

I'd say this could be implemented via a "export" and "restore" confugration. this will enable those roll backs, as well as a back up or duplicating configuration accross several machines.
