Description Iuri Fiedoruk 2004-08-04 03:01:23 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.92)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I'm using Suse 9.1 with KDE 3.3 beta2 RPMs and noticed a annoying bug: when I edit a menu and move some items into it, after I restart kmenuedit, it simply dosen't expand the submenu when i click on the "+" symbol showing nothing. This way I can't edit the entries on that submenu anymore.
The strange is that the application shortcuts option in kcontrol show the entries of that submenu as kmenuedit should.

That's strange indeed, does it change if you run "kbuildsycoca --noincremental" ?

Does the KDE menu (Alt-F1) itself still show the sub-menu?
Comment 2 Iuri Fiedoruk 2004-08-04 12:15:12 UTC
Running kbuildsycoca --noincremental dosen't change the problem, and yes, it shows on menu too, it's just the kmenuedit that have this problem.
Removing the applications-kmenuedit.menu from ~/.config/menus makes it work again once it restart to defaults, but that not the idea of editing menus ;)

I have the same problem. I moved some meuu items into the applications menu, but in Kedit, the application menu does not expand. Running SUSE 9.1 and whatever version of KDE it came with.

I have the same problem. I installed new items into a sub-menu, it appeared ok until I but in Kedit, the application menu does not expand. When you click the '+' it does change to '-' but submenu appears to be empty. Can no longer edit that submenu. However, I have reentered the same item into the closed submenu and found that this has brought them back in some cases.

confirmed for Suse 9.1. professional edition. I encountered the same problem as luri, Ian and David did; in my case by including a non-KDE program (xcwccp) into the sub-menue 'internet->ham radio'. Though I have not checked 'kbuildsycoca --noincremental' yet.

I can confirm that I have the same problem!

I'm running:
SuSE 9.1 professional
KDE 3.2.1
Kmenuedit 0.5

What I did:
I added a menuitem to a menu in kmenuedit. Everthing worked as expected whilst adding the item and as such I hit save and closed the editor.

Some minutes later I re-launched kmenuedit to add another menuitem to the same menu. Upon re-launch the menuitem and it's peers were unavailable in the way described by the original post.

Observations:
All of the "missing" items are still present in the *actual* menu, simply missing in the editor itself.

The menu with the missing items is a top-level menu and it has been added to the panel.

I have seen this problem in version 8.2, 9.0 and 9.1 of SuSE!

The problem is intermittent!

me too: SuSE 9.1 personal download install. I made a new submenu under the Graphics menu and added flphoto to it moved Gimp in there. Then saved and quit menuetit: the changes are shown correctly in the actual menu but I can no longerexpand the Graphics menu (though I can edit the Graphics menu heading itself)

This is a SUSE specific problem, see BR86846. Will be fixed in the KDE 3.3.1 packages.
