I've just run across a recomendation-generating music taste database called <a href="http://www.audioscrobbbler.com>audioscrobbler</a>. Audioscrobbler is licensed under the Creative Commons license. 

From the <a href="http://www.audioscrobbler.com">homepage</a>: 

<blockquote>Plugins send the name of every song you play to the Audioscrobbler server, which updates your musical profile with the new song. Every person with a plugin has their own page on this site which shows their listening statistics. The system automatically matches you to people with a similar music taste, and generates personalised recommendations.</blockquote>

Plugins already exist for XMMS, Winamp, ITunes, MorphOS, and more. The homepage (as of 7/29) says that audioscrobbler is up for review in Wired magazine. It'd be great to use audioscrobbler (though I'm not about to drop Amarok for it), and to see amarok get publicity as one of the supporting apps.

This is a good candidate for a JavaScript plugin. Guess it's time to finish the scripting stuff.

Basic Audioscrobbler support is now implemented in CVS HEAD. It recommends music related to the currently playing track.

This feature will likely be extended to support more of Audioscrobbler's offerings.
