I couldn't find a way to read a message without preview pane, using shortcut keys or menus, the only way to read a message seems to be doubleclicking with mouse. You can do all tasks but this with keyboard, but you can't reply a mail with your mouse, can you? But you can't  read them with your keyboard. Not funny :S
