Description Aaron Peterson 2004-03-24 08:38:45 UTC
Version: 3.2.1 (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

The addition of an "Extension" or "Type" column, similar to windows explorer has, that can help sort files by type. Expesially usefull in File Chooser type dialogs, but no reason not to have it in "save as" dialogs either.

Even though unix doesn't traditionally require file extensions, they are a usefull tool that provides an alternate means of locating a file.

This may already be "available" but there is no obvious way to add columns to the file dialog.

Generally for KDE the 'file type' columnm should serve the purpose the file extension does under Windows. Bug 152241 contains a proposal how to difference by extension in addition to differencing and sorting merely by mime type. That should generally be preferred over adding another column that provides a similar and concurring sort order.

That column is hidden in KDE4 (default config).
