Hmm right... the problem is that the directory tree is a "passive view" one that can't be made active (doesn't have a green led etc.) That's because you usually don't need to and it makes it easier to use since the active view doesn't change.... but then it's not possible to configure anything for it. Not sure what's best for the dir tree's configuration a separate dialog box (kcmshell) or adding menu items to RMB on dirs or.... well it could use the local configuration of the directory (.directory) so it can be changed from the other view but that would be very unintuitive... ("save view props in dir" would need to be checked first....) :( A separate "dir tree config dialog box" seems the best solution to me currently. -- David FAURE david@mandrakesoft.com faure@kde.org http://home.clara.net/faure/ http://www.konqueror.org/ KDE Making The Future of Computing Available Today See http://www.kde.org/kde1-and-kde2.html for how to set up KDE 2 This bug entry is still unaddressed (as "NEW") as of KDE/Konqueror 3.1.0. If the KDE/Konqueror architecture has changed since the last comment (so that implementing this feature request would now be possible), it would probably be best to tie the option for the Navigation Panel showing hidden directories to the option for the main file management panel to show hidden files & directories. renaming a directory / folder should also be possible... *** Bug 16963 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** There is actually a hidden setting for this. Making this follow the setting on the RHS was actually available in some versions, but was removed since it caused crashes due to how toggling of display hidden affects the directory lister library. *** Bug 74419 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Replaced sts@messe.lst.de with jdobratz@gmx.de due to bounces by reporter Hello kde hackers... Ya know Guys... I can think of no better bug than this one to call my first for kde. It's just one of those kinds of bugs that grows on someone. Though I do appreciate the tree option on the right hand side... that does allow penetration into a hidden directory, I can't help but think it could be made to work completely. Invisible folders are for Windows people, so they can't figure out what monkey business M$ is up to. Then again... sometimes you just don't want to see the mess of all the .dirs in your home, so it should be fixed in a way that both windows use a gui element to watch for the current setting or changes to any default behaviour, and check before any files are searched for. I remember something about it being done in mozilla using listeners... yeah it's been a while. At least maybe someone can point out the way to help me find out what the status is on this bug in kde4. I mean this bug was originaly filed in 2000! Now that I've got that off my chest... I guess what I'm feeling after taking a few deep breaths is how would a button that also communicates to the menu item and vice versa... whose function is to set the show hidden files and directories value. If I need to drag and drop... there are more intuitive ways such as using tabs or even separate windows for the explorer crowd. The button could even reside on the Navigation Panel. just my 2 cents. Well... a few months later. Since there is no activity on this I did a search to see where it died. Here is some of of that discussion. Maybe this can save somebody else some of the time it took me. What I can gather is it presented some problems when the settings to filter hidden or . directories... would cause a problem if the current dir was hidden when a list was generated, and then filtered out. I usually use Knoppix. Since Klaus hasn't updated Knoppix for 14 months that has not been adequate to allow me to see where things are in kde 4, but I hope this issue has been addressed in it. http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&w=2&r=1&s=hidden+directories&q=b http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104360838122118&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104581068317200&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104584524326614&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104585485111612&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104585556612671&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104586804330375&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104593297514719&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104601697411356&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104601708311410&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104611380511728&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104612016421766&w=2 http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=104635275632318&w=2 hidden directory could be even visible from the dolphin directory tree panel. I think it is mandatory for having such an option in the treeview and I'll add this to the KDE 4.1 version of Dolphin.
Thanks peter. I just implemented "showing hidden files" for the treeview in Dolphin. I'll commit it on Monday into trunk -> will be available in KDE 4.1 at least for Dolphin. Sounds great. Ya know... I googled "KDE reference platform" and got nothing back. Is there a reference platform vm for KDE building somewhere? I've set aside some space for this... and was 'surprised' that I could not find one easily. Ok, Dolphin (in KDE 4) has implemented this feature (just tested, it works fine, thanks Peter Penz!). I close the bug because the feature has been added on KDE4 (and I'm almost sure that it won't be backported on konqueror in 3.5). Do you all agree? I also tested this in Dolphin, and it seemed to work fine. I agree. Thank You Peter! Closing this one is fine. |
