Starting k3b on my system causes the application to hang in a uninterruptable sleep state when detecting the drives. Application will never terminate, can not be killed even with kill -9. /var/log/messages reports:kernel: ide-scsi: The scsi wants to send us more data than expected - discarding data.

Although this is probably a kernel error of some kind, it might be nice to have k3b degrade more elegantly on this error, as having to reboot a machine to kill of an application is not very nice. =)

use k3b 0.11.6 and if you are running kernel 2.6.x make sure it's at least 2.6.4

I have almost the same problem.

Gentoo, kde 3.2.1, k3b 0.11.6 and 2.6.3-gentoo-r2 kernel and the system hangs. (hard have to hit reset button)

So similary problem here, more serious.

Going to see if I can find a 2.6.4 kernel and test with that.

Found the problem. It appears that the ide-scsi emulation was causing the lockup.

I disabled it and everything works on 2.6.3 now.

Upgrading to 2.6.4 & k3b 0.11.6 solved the problem. Thanks for the great program, Sebastian, I think it's one of the leading programs in KDE regarding useability and appearance. Cheers!
