The link above is to an image of KDevelop with the problem.  You will notice the name of the file is repeated across the title bar.  This actually happens in steps of about 200ms with a new instance added to the right of the previous ones.  Some characters in the tabs and status bar have either red or green as the background color.  This is incorrect.

I categorized the bug as a 'crash' because the growing title will almost certainly overflow at some point.

I exited KDevelop, removed all the config files for KDevelop from ./kde/share/config, and started KDevelop.  This seems to have fixed the problem.  It's worth recording another user reported the same problem on the developer mailing list.  My config file from when I had the problem are backed up. If anybody things they would be helpfull in identifying the cause, I can provide them.
