The fact that KDE apps store state in their config files is quite frustrating.  I'm picking on kmail in particular because that is the most frustrating one but this complaint applies to many (most?) kde apps.

I keep much of my home directory in subversion (revision control), this way whether I'm using my work desktop, my home desktop or my laptop I always have the same data regardless of where I am.

When I'm finished at work (if I've created or modified any files) then I simply to an "svn commit" and when I get home (or to the laptop) I do an svn update to update my home.

kmailrc unfortunately contains "recently seen addresses" and lots of other data.  This means that every single time I use kmail the config change.  Checking kmailrc in every single day when I have made no config changes doesn't seem like a smart thing to do.

Many other apps have similar issues.  Konqueror updates bookmarks.xml everytime you visit a page, I'm not sure why that's necessary but even if it is shouldn't tracking data like that be separate from the config?

Does that mean that you don't consider it a bug or that you're just thinking there's nobody who will bother fixing it?

Not exactly. Fixing this would cause much work on many kde apps - without much win.
