I often load files over the network (I keep my todo list on my laptop) in KWrite (via smb:// now, since bug 74740 is annoying). If I try to save after a while (a number of hours, laptop probably reconnects during this time), I will get a permission denied dialog instead of being prompted for login.

KDE 3 is no longer maintained. Feel free to reopen the ticket if the problem is still applicable in the current stable KDE 4 version. Thank you for your report.
