This problem is similar to som bug reports about icons snapping back into their old position.

When you move an icon, a copy of it is shown next to the mouse pointer.
When you release the mouse button, the icon does not end up at the location of the copy, but instead somewhere near the mouse pointer. Quite annoying.

Bug closed. Kdesktop is no more mantained.
