Description Daniel Östman 2004-02-11 17:55:46 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
OS: Linux

I want to import all my mails from outlook express 6 but it only imports some of them.
In my inbox in outlook I have 1245 mails.. and when I import them I don't get any error messages but when it is finished it says that the OE-Inbox folder in kmail contains like 638 mails. Then when I view the folder the statusbar says "320 messages, 638 unread."

Also it seems like it "imports" different amount of messages each time. Sometimes it says that the OE-inbox contains 958 messages and sometimes 1278 but the amount of messages that actualy gets imported seems always to be 320 for the OE-Inbox folder.

Somehing seems to be wrong with the Outlook Express import filter.

I have the same problem--only in my case it imports every time exactly 222 messages for inbox and 121 for sent items. might be a coincidence, I haven't tried too many times. I am using Slack 9.1

It would be very helpful if anyone of you could provide a sample Outlook folder which isn't imported correctly.
Comment 3 Daniel Östman 2004-02-13 23:53:43 UTC
Ingo:

You've got email!
Comment 4 Victor 2004-02-15 00:57:01 UTC
Now that I switched to kde 3.1.4, I transfered my emails without a problem. Obviously it's a bug of the new filter
Comment 5 Daniel Östman 2004-02-15 12:16:12 UTC
Well then we can hope that it is easily solved.
Comment 6 Ingo Klöcker 2004-02-16 11:27:48 UTC
IIRC the filter was completely rewritten. So I doubt that it will be easily solved. Interestingly lots of problems were reported with the old import filter. So it's surprising that it works for Victor without problems.
Comment 7 Victor 2004-02-17 00:13:17 UTC
I wouldn't say totally without problems. I am still not sure if I recovered all of my sent items emails (there are so many of them!), but at least my inbox seems complete. It worked decently if not perfectly.
Comment 8 Laurence Anderson 2004-06-13 18:26:52 UTC
I think this is a problem with duplicate subject lines. KMailCVT now detects this error returned from KMail. Could you send me your example mailbox please for me to check if this is the case.

I too have had this problem (Using KDE 3.3.2 from SuSE packages). It imported old emails but not new ones. I will try to get a sample to you (not my computer).

I am trying to import OExpress6.0 messages , into KMAIL (SUSE9.2 Distribution = KDE base library ver3.3.0-34 ), and when there are few messages (10 messages) on the .pbx repository there are no problems, instead in the case of bigger, it start from the olders , and after a while, it shows the "Duplicated error" messages, and no more messages are imported.
I can attach the OExpress repository, because it is too large, but you can reproduce the error easyly

I can reproduce some problems with import OE6 boxes. Please try to reproduce with KDE 3.4 / KMail 1.8. Please import with checked new checkbox 'Remove duplicate messages during import' and tell me how many messages are imported and how much are duplicated. Please also try without remove duplicated messages.

CVS commit by dkukawka:

- Fixed problems with Outlook Express 5 and 6 *.dbx files. So far only
imported mails with flag 0x84. Therefor all mails with flag 0x04
  never be imported. Fixed now.
- Fixed functions for more interactivity if user cancel the import.

I just installed SuSE 9.3 (KDE 3.4.0, Kmail 1.8) and still couldn't successfully import all my OE e-mails (I previously tried it with SuSE 9.2).
I had a look at the changelog for 3.4.1 and I couldn't find any entry related to this issue.
I can provide with dozens of folders containing from a few up to thousands (25000) e-mails if necessary (Total mailbox size:~2Gb). Please let me know.
As for me, it might be this flag 0x04 issue, but also something completely different as the import process of a particular folder suddenly jumps from 15% to 100% missing nearly 22000 e-mails in the bigger case.
Comment 15 Danny Kukawka 2005-07-23 03:10:27 UTC
This fix is not in the SUSE 3.4.0 Package because the SUSE goldmaster for 9.3. was 24.03.2005. So try this with a newer SUSE package e.g. KDE 3.4.1
