Version:           1.6 (using KDE 3.2.0, SuSE)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-4GB

When I try to save attachment using kio_smb or kio_fish (smb://.... or fish://....) then nothing happens. 
At same time I can save attachmets on local disk and then in konqueror copy/paste to those smb or fish places so kio_* itself is working.
