Description Dr. Olaf Ippisch 2004-02-04 11:12:33 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: Debian stable Packages
OS: Linux

I updated my system (linux - debian - stable with some backports installed) from kde 3.1.4
to kde 3.2.0 yesterday. When I work a while with the system (only using kmail and konqueror is
sufficient) the system get's quite slow. top shows, that the system load of the X-server goes up
to 60 percent and the system load of kded and kwin reach both approximately 20 percent. I killed kwin and the system load of the X-server was back to normal. I restarted kwin and for the moment the system load is back to normal as well. The effect that the load of X-server and kwin go up so high happened each time I rebooted. I'm using xfree86 version 4.2.1 on a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop
with the nvidia proprietary driver module version 1.0.4496. This effect happened neither with kde 3.1.4 nor it does happen with gnome 1.4.
