Applying a per-user resolution setting as a system-wide setting is broken. A single machine can run multiple displays off a single XF86Config: for example, in a configuration where each user keeps his work on his own display, so he won't have to log out to let another user take his seat (like WinXP's Fast User Switching). The KRandR settings should remain per-user. The current behavior is correct. You're right. Root should make system-wide settings. Let me express myself better. As of now, KRandR applies its settings *after* X11 startup; and moreover, its settings are applied only to KDE. What I would like to see is to have the option to have KRandR preferences reflected in that particular user's config or display at the time of X11 startup. So, if a particular user likes to work at 1024x768 in a previously configured display of 1280x1024, KRandR could offer to make this resolution his/her default display resolution, applicable to all window managers/desktop environments used. Additionally, when KRandR is invoked by root, then KRandR should offer the possibility of making those settings system-wide. What prompts me to make this wishlist suggestion is the fact that we removed KXConfig (which is a decision I understand). KRandR could very well be a suitable replacement meanwhile. Thanks, Eduardo Sorry, I don't intend to implement this. Others are welcome to try. The best solution for you is to set up your X11 configuration to start as you want it to. |
