It's not completely disabled. It's disabled for a while and the display of misspelt words. If you continue typing with correct words, the checking will kick in again (after a time and a threshold, I assume). Imagine I am writing something in my native language (Portuguese) but with a lot of technical terms in English. Have the checker get disabled everytime I make a misspelling because I am at the threshold would be very annoying. I would close your bug report as WONTFIX. The depressed icon indicates that automatic spell-checking is enabled. If you click then icon then automatic spell-checking will be completely disabled. I agree that it's a bit confusing but doesn't the tooltip say "automatic spell checking" (or something similar)? Anyway, KMail behaves as intended. So I downgrade your bug report to a wish. You need a bigger threshold (or none) at least in the beginning so that this design doesn't look stupid! Lower it later. example I type 1 correct word and one misspelled word. Immediately you can see it make the misspell red and then black again. At the bottom you see... this disabled as-you-type mode then type another word correctly and the second one becomes red again. In a 2 word document the algorithm does not work. Hope this helps .... because it works great in bigger documents! (I have no plans to 'fix' this). Don. Is this behaviour not changed already? This is not in issue in KDE4 anymore, since the spellcheck is not disabled when there are too many errors. |
