I've a Konqueror window with 2 part : my filesystem tree in the left part and the files of the current folder in the right part.
In the left part, the Popud menu of a selected folder have its 'Rename (F2)' whis is disabled. But I can rename this folder with the Properties.
So, why can I rename the folder with the Properties but not with 'Rename (F2)'.
(My filesystem is a local ext3 filesystem)

I suppose this is just the way Konqueror works. It would be very nice to be able to rename folders directly in the left pane.

This behavior has been in konqueror for a long time - and it always annoyed me. I hope it's not hard to make renaming in the tree view (or is it more correctly called the sidebar?) possible. Or if the tree view somehow makes it hard to implement editing the name directly in the tree view, perhaps "Rename" could at least pop up a dialog box allowing the name to be changed. In my daily usage, I often need to rename a folder I see in the tree view, but I can't just choose rename, so I have to either open the Properties dialog (which is not intuitive at all), or open that folder's parent directory and rename the directory in the icon view. Both of these solutions are somewhat inconvenient.
One more note: if renaming in the tree view can't be implemented, I think the "Rename" item should be removed from the context menu completely, rather than just being disabled. When the item is in there, but is disabled, the user's first thaught is that for some reason the folder can't be renamed _at_the_moment_ - and it makes the user quit looking for another way to rename the folder.

I can confirm that I am also unable to rename files in the left-hand tree using either F2 or right-click > Rename. Haven't tried deleting yet. I'm running the new KDE 3.3.0 release.
