Version:           unknown (using KDE 3.1.94 (3.2 Beta 2), yes)

This appears to be related to whether or not your have threading enabled. I read all my email via IMAP, and when I have threading turned on, and delete a message, some times I end up clicked on the next message, but the msg pane shows the previous message contents! If I formally click on that previous message, then click back onto the next, then the message panes "fixes" itself.

This doesn't appear to happen when I disable threading.

Jason, thanks for reporting this. It is believed to be fixed in the current development version of KMail which will be in KDE 3.3
